Creating Workers

Workers are AI agents that perform specific business functions. Learn how to create, configure, and optimize them.

What is a Worker?

A worker is an AI agent assigned to your organization that processes tasks, generates proposals, and executes approved actions. Each worker has:

  • A Role: Defines the worker's capabilities, allowed tools, and safety rules
  • Autonomy Level: How independently the worker can act
  • Instructions: Custom guidance for how the worker should behave
  • Integration Access: Which connected services the worker can use

Worker Configuration Options

Name and Description

Give your worker a descriptive name that helps identify its purpose (e.g., "Support Inbox Handler"). The description provides context about what this worker does.

Persona

The persona defines the worker's communication style. This affects how the worker drafts responses and interacts with external parties.

Custom Instructions

Provide specific guidance for your worker. These instructions are included in every task the worker processes.

Writing Good Instructions

  • Be specific about expected behavior
  • Include examples when possible
  • Mention any restrictions or prohibited actions
  • Reference your organization's tone and style guidelines

Autonomy Levels

The autonomy level determines how much independence your worker has when processing tasks.

Draft Only

Worker creates drafts but never sends anything. You must manually review and send all responses. Best for learning how the worker behaves.

Approval RequiredRecommended

Worker generates proposals that appear in your inbox for approval. You can approve, edit, or reject each proposal before execution.

Auto-Execute

Worker automatically executes approved actions within configured safety limits. Best for trusted, routine tasks. Only available on the Business plan.

Role Autonomy Ceilings

Some roles have an autonomy ceiling that limits the maximum autonomy level. For example, Customer Support Agents are limited to Approval Required to ensure human oversight of customer interactions.
